Alumnae News Clips

Spring has arrived here at Visitation.  Our magnolia trees are covered with pink blossoms.  The jonquils stand in sturdy rows sporting their yellow cups.  Even the tulips are thrusting through the moist earth.  it is beautiful though cold and damp.  This was the wettest March in recorded history.  April too promises to be a wet month.  But May will bring the final celebration of our 175th year in the Midwest.

The 175th Anniversary Celebration

As you know, We have been celebrating the 175th anniversary of the founding of the Visitation in the Mississippi valley during the current school year.  This celebration will culminate with a Mass offered by Archbishop Burke on May 4th, 2008.  We hope many of you will be here to celebrate with us.

You may recall that Visitation was actually founded in Kaskaskia on May 3rd 1833 but was moved to St Louis when the Mississippi River flooded in 1843 submerging the recently completed monastery and school.. Please click on this flower:  to learn more about the history of our Visitation Academy as well as of the Sisters of the Visitation.

Please also pray for vocations that our Sisters may continue to be actively involved in the future of the Visitation Academy in St. Louis.

Sister Mary Agnes Thompson V.H.M.  R.I.P

Sr Mary Agnes went home to God on March 26, 2008 at the age of 104.  She had been a Visitation nun for over 80 years working like Martha for the first 48, then just being in God's presence for the past 34.  She have been a vibrant joyful presence in our community for more than half its existence in the Midwest.  We miss her and count on your prayers for her and for us.
